Story (from The Dove Foundation):
"End of the Spear" is the story of Mincayani, a Waodani tribesman from the jungles of Ecuador. When five young missionaries, among them Jim Elliot and Nate Saint, are speared to death by the Waodani in 1956, a series of events unfold to change the lives of not only the slain missionaries' families, but also Mincayani and his people.

Technical Info:
PG-13 Violence (spearing/tribal), blood, wounds shown (slightly graphic), scantily clad tribes people, one young girl beginning development shown topless for a portion of the beginning of the movie.

Angela's Take:
In regard to above, I felt it was completely unnecessary to show the girl at the beginning without something covering her chest, I also felt the men should have been clothed at little more as well. While this dress (or non-dress) may be accurate, full accuracy is not needed for us to understand the story and I have to say that it made me uncomfortable watching, maybe I am just more modest than most, it also bothers me because while some of us can view it without any problems, or without any problems other than being uncomfortable, some people have problems with sin in these areas and I always feel that we should do our best not to put temptation in front of others.
Aside from this, I found the movie to be very touching. I read about this story many years ago, so I was already familiar with it. I though that Chad Allen did a tremendous job and was surprised to find out recently that he is a homosexual. While this bothers some people (the fact that a homosexual played in the movie), I think that it is irrelevant to the movie itself. He is not one of the producers gaining money from the profits, he was a hired hand, and apparently was the best actor for the job. To their credit, the producers did state that they did not know this fact about him until after they offered him the part and felt they should not go back on their word. They said that had they known beforehand, they would not have asked him. They as well as I, feel that God had a purpose in his participation, He can use whomever He wants for His purposes and who knows, maybe this had or is having an impact on the actor, at the very least, we can and should pray for him. I am not condoning his personal behavior, the Bible is VERY clear on homosexuality in both the Old and New Testament, 1 Corinthians 6:9 is just one example, it can't get any clearer than that. It does bother me that Chad Allen would claim to be a Christian himself, which may be why some people protest the movie. This aside, I have to give him credit in his acting ability for doing a fine job portraying Nate and Steve Saint, and I I can't imagine any actor doing a better job.
If the tribal issues don't bother you or your family, you may just want to pre-screen before deciding to show to young children.

If the story interests you, you may want to see Beyond The Gates of Splendor, which is a documentary of the story and contains interviews with many of the actual people involved, some of the tribes people, the wives and children of the men who died.
